Château du Marais

Château du Marais is one of the most majestic estates in Essonne. Its park, the result of a historic millefeuille, is a deliciously harmonious blend of water and greenery. Its 550-meter-long water mirror embellishes the composition, and the play of reflections highlights the Louis XVI château.

A museum dedicated to the owners and their illustrious guests (Talleyrand, Chateaubriand...) and a carriage room complete the visit.

After passing through the gate, you'll find yourself in the avenue of plane trees. Chateaubriand said that "the Marais did not lose its avenue of plane trees during the revolution", and the fabulist Florian wrote that when he left the avenue of plane trees, he was leaving a paradise. Then, on your right, you'll see a pink ochre building - the oldest in the area - which used to be a mill. It often houses exhibitions. Don't hesitate to take a few steps inside.

Chateau de la Madeleine

Château de la Madeleine, located in the hills above Chevreuse, offers superb panoramic views over the Yvette valley. It is one of the few medieval castles in the Yvelines region. A magnificent fortress, it was built between the 11th and 14th centuries. In the 11th century, Guy 1er de Montlhéry et de Chevreuse had the Romanesque keep and chapel, protected by a wooden palisade, built on the plateau overlooking Chevreuse and controlling the Paris-Chartres road

The Maison du Parc was built inside the castle walls. Visitors are free to explore the inner courtyard, the ramparts and the panoramic view over the Chevreuse Valley, the cellars and the Tour des Gardes. In the cellars, you'll find an exhibition on the history of the château.

A wide range of tourist information is available in the entrance châtelet. For children, a discovery-game booklet has been created to guide them around the château.

What's more, it's easily accessible, well-maintained and the perfect setting for a family picnic.

Dampierre Castle

Built by Jules-Hardouin Mansart from 1675 to 1683 for the Duc de Chevreuse, Colbert's son-in-law, and restored under Louis-Philippe, the château, which belongs to the de Luynes family, stands at the far end of a paved courtyard of honor, separated from the outbuildings by elegant balustrades on either side: preceded by a majestic gate and clad with a slate roof, the central body is remarkable for its pavilion, classically decorated with four columns supporting a sculpted pediment, and its two Renaissance turrets masking the wings' corners. You should also visit the château's sumptuous interior, its large elbow-shaped pond and the park designed by Le Nôtre.
